I first started to notice these hung trainers in Southend-on-Sea some years back. Intriguing. I have since heard that they denote gang territory and could have a sinister connotation. I hope not. Great photo!
Thanks for the comments- shoes are internationally abandoned ( the case of ‘one shoe’ on the road, at the bus stop etc) and flung like this on to something to hang….I have a bit of a ‘thing’ about shoes and so they do pop up in my photos- this pair were hanging from the tree outside our window, where we were staying in Montpellier @Dr Reba- am fascinated and slightly concrened to know this intriguing possibility re the meaning of shoes displayed in this way! I wonder if we were in gang territory!? It seemed so quiet and peaceful as well

I’ve often wondered about how such shoes get to that position…on telephone poles and trees…were they given up freely or were they taken hostage?
We get those over telephone wires here in Jerusalem. I’ve often wondered what they’re all about. Great photo.
