World Book Day

Today is World Book Day with events and activities takling place across the UK and Ireland. The day has particular emphasis on encouraging children to read and so is taking place during term time, although many other countries celebrate the day on April 23rd.

So many books for young children rely on poetry and rhyming verse in particular to tell their stories- too many to mention here. I have however recently introduced my son to Dr Seuss’s The Cat In The Hat, which at the age of two and a half, he is thoroughly enjoying!

Is there a poetry book for kids that you would recommend?

Or a poetry book for adults? I would recommend Don Paterson’s Rain.

  1. I love Cat in the Hat and all of those books for children. It’s simple fun and colourfull! =]
For adults, I prefer books with all different poets on one theme like 100 love poems, that way i get the best of all different writers without buying too many books, then if i love one person i buy their book! =]
